FLOAT AWAY

A long stretch of glossy grey pebbles makes up the shoreline of Es Codolar, situated directly under the fly path to Ibiza’s airport, meaning you can watch planes full of tourists coming into land from the tranquility of this surprisingly almost deserted beach. It’s close proximity to the salt plains makes the water here particularly salty, and thus buoyant, a great place to float the day away.

People attending

It’s a very small group of Ibiza locals who frequent Es Codolar – predominantly older expat clubbing types, grown-up party people and a few wellness gurus thrown in for good measure. You’ll also find plenty of people with pets here, as it’s one of the only beaches you can take a dog off the leash.

Best time to go

Early birds will love spotting the pack of wild Podencos (the Ibicenco breed of dog) roaming the beach in the mornings on their hunt for rabbits.

Tips

Swimming out to the trampoline-style pontoon in the middle of the sea, soaking up the sun’s rays and then diving off into the cool blue water… but let’s keep that our little secret!

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

Location: Just past the airport, on the island’s east coast, just before you reach the popular neighboring beaches of Sa Caleta and Cala Jondal.

How to get there: Take the San Jose road and turn after the airport towards Cala Jondal. Just before you reach the turnoff for Sa Caleta, there is a small supermarket with a small car park beside it and this is the point to park for Es Codolar, which is directly behind the store.

From Ibiza Town: 10-minute drive. From San Antonio: 30-minute drive.
