Drug Trafficking In Ibiza Airport Leads To Expulsion Instead Of Jail

The Balearic Provincial Court has issued a firm sentence in a case involving drug trafficking in Ibiza Airport, replacing a prison term with expulsion from Spain. The accused, a British citizen, admitted transporting multiple illegal substances and will now face a six-year ban from entering Spanish territory.

According to the ruling, the accused arrived in Ibiza on 13 August 2022 from Manchester. At around 21:00, he threw a package into a security access airlock at the airport terminal. Inside the package, authorities found MDMA, cocaine and ketamine.

The substances included two bags with 15 MDMA pills each, 3.326 grams of cocaine at 75.26% purity and 3.899 grams of ketamine at 78.36% purity. The court confirmed that the drugs were intended for sale on the island, with an estimated market value of 776.87 euros.

The Court’s Assessment

The Balearic Court classified the act as a crime against public health under Article 368 of the Spanish Penal Code. This category covers substances that cause serious harm to health. The accused acknowledged the facts and accepted the prosecution’s position, which helped finalise the sentence without further hearings.

The Sentence And Its Implications

Prison Term Replaced By Expulsion

The original sentence included three years of imprisonment. However, the court decided to replace the jail time with expulsion from Spain for six years, a measure commonly applied to foreign nationals convicted of drug trafficking in Ibiza Airport or similar cases.

Additional Penalties

The convicted man must also pay an 800-euro fine and cover legal costs. The resolution is definitive and cannot be appealed, closing the case immediately.
