A night out in paradise that went terribly wrong

A young British woman’s holiday in Ibiza took a terrifying turn after she believes her drink was spiked during a night out. Layla Boudaboussa, 26, was attending a party at Ibiza Rocks with friends and family on 11 July when she suddenly lost control of her body. Despite having consumed very little alcohol, she felt extremely drunk and disoriented.

The terrifying symptoms no one expected

According to Layla, she couldn’t stand or speak, and her eyes rolled back in her head. Her mother, Jeanette, described the moment as traumatic. Venue staff rushed her to a medical room, where a finger-prick test reportedly showed a low level of alcohol in her system.

“That’s when they confirmed I had been spiked,” Layla said.

She regained consciousness 15 hours later but was still weak and confused. Her GP back in the UK believed the drugs involved were likely GHB and ketamine — both illegal and commonly used in spiking cases.

After the incident: memory loss and mental fog

Layla described the days following the incident as extremely difficult. She said she kept falling asleep, even during meals, and felt constantly confused. Her memory was also impaired.

“I just wanted to turn a really negative experience into a positive one,” she said.

Raising awareness through social media

Layla posted a video on TikTok detailing what happened to her. It quickly went viral, with over 269,000 views. Parents and travellers began reaching out to her, saying they were now buying drink covers and taking more precautions.

Venue responds, but questions remain

Ibiza Rocks has publicly denied some of Layla’s claims. They stated no manager said spiking incidents happen daily, and disputed the finger-prick test. However, they confirmed that drink covers are freely provided and that customer safety is a priority.
