The decision to block the website was taken urgently after the National Police flagged suspicious activities. Authorities suspected that the site was soliciting fraudulent donations to aid those affected by the recent floods in Valencia.

Police Involvement and Investigation

The Brigada Provincial de Información de Valencia of the National Police submitted a formal complaint. They highlighted that the website was requesting donations, possibly through Bitcoin, under the guise of flood relief efforts.

Preventing Cyber Fraud and Protecting Citizens

To prevent further cyber fraud, the government acted swiftly. The Red.es, part of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, coordinated the blocking of the website.

Collaboration with Telecom Operators

Red.es worked closely with major telecom operators across the country. This collaboration ensured that access to ayudavalencia.es was immediately restricted, preventing more citizens from falling victim to the scam.

Official Channels for Flood Relief Information

Amid the confusion, the Ministry emphasised the importance of using official channels for relief information. The government urges citizens to verify the legitimacy of donation requests.

New Government Resources and Social Media Updates

The government has launched a new section on the Moncloa website and established official social media accounts @InfoDanaGob. These platforms provide up-to-date information on aid measures, victim numbers, and the deployment of security forces.
