Ku Ibiza: The Legendary Nightclub’s Grand Return in 2025
After more than three decades, the legendary Ku Ibiza might soon reopen its doors. A group of entrepreneurs plans to revive the iconic nightclub that once defined the island’s nightlife.
The History of Ku Ibiza
In 1978, three young Basque businessmen—José Luis Anabitarte (Gorri), Javier Iturrioz, and José Antonio Santamaría—founded Ku Ibiza near Sant Rafel. The club quickly became one of the most emblematic venues on the island. Celebrities and ordinary people mingled, partied, and enjoyed unforgettable nights without the distractions of modern technology.
Memorable Moments
The club was famous for its extravagant parties like Noche Blanca, La Troya, and Wet T-shirt contests. One historic moment featured Montserrat Caballé and Freddie Mercury performing “Barcelona,” the anthem for the 1992 Olympics.
Transition to Privilege
In 1990, the owners renamed Ku Ibiza to Privilege and continued operating it for over 25 years. Currently, the venue is undergoing renovations to become UNVRS, signalling another chapter in its storied history.
The Revival Plan
Now, 31 years after Ku Ibiza closed, nightlife entrepreneur Santiago Llorens aims to bring it back. Llorens previously directed Pacha in Madrid and Barcelona and managed the iconic Joy Eslava in Madrid.
“We are actively searching for locations in Ibiza for the summer of 2025,” the group stated in a press release. “We’ve had discussions with local hospitality groups, and several companies are interested in franchising the project. Ku Ibiza could return as a nightclub if we find a venue of the appropriate size, but it might also materialise as a restaurant or beach club.”
