Luggage Theft in Ibiza: Four Arrested in Hotel and Airport Robberies

Hotel Theft in Sant Josep

In the morning, a woman settled into her hotel room in Sant Josep, only to discover that one of her suitcases, containing items valued at €30,000, was missing. Security footage revealed a man taking the suitcase and leaving the premises. Following an investigation, the Guardia Civil arrested a 39-year-old Algerian man and a 44-year-old British man in connection with the theft.

Airport Theft Incident

Later that evening, a traveler at Ibiza Airport reported the theft of his luggage while he was outside the terminal awaiting a ride. Two individuals approached him, one distracting him while the other stole his suitcase and backpack. A search of the airport led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Belgian man and a 25-year-old Algerian man, who were attempting to leave on a motorcycle. The stolen items were recovered and returned to the owner.

Potential Criminal Network

The involvement of two Belgian and two Algerian nationals in these incidents suggests the possibility of an organised theft ring operating in Ibiza. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if these arrests are part of a larger network targeting tourists.

Travel Safety Tips

To protect personal belongings, tourists are advised to:

  • Keep valuables secure and out of sight.
  • Use hotel safes and lockers when available.
  • Be vigilant in crowded areas, especially near transportation hubs.
  • Report any suspicious activity to local authorities promptly.

By staying alert and taking precautions, visitors can reduce the risk of falling victim to theft while enjoying their time in Ibiza.
