An act of vandalism has shocked the artistic community of Ibiza. Just one day before its official unveiling, the mural “Endless Rainbow Walk” by Okuda San Miguel was defaced in Sant Antoni.

The Art and Its Meaning

Okuda San Miguel, famous for his colourful, geometric public art, began work on the piece in April. The mural, titled “Endless Rainbow Walk,” stretches 160 metres through the West End of Sant Antoni. It symbolises diversity and artistic renewal in a space previously known for noise and nightlife.

Funded with €371,000 — including €220,000 from EU funds under the NextGenerationEU plan — the artwork is part of the local tourism sustainability programme.

The Vandalism Incident

During the night before the scheduled inauguration, unknown individuals painted over part of the mural. Tags and graffiti were sprayed across the centre, damaging weeks of artistic work.

Local officials immediately condemned the act. The mayor of Sant Antoni, Marcos Serra, called it an attack on culture and public space.

Restoration and Legal Action

Authorities have opened an investigation with the help of the local police. Meanwhile, a team is assessing the damage to begin urgent restoration. The artist’s team is coordinating repairs.

According to municipal regulations, this type of vandalism is a serious offence. It can lead to heavy fines. The Spanish penal code also protects cultural and artistic heritage, which means criminal charges could follow.
