Private Security in Ibiza Sees 30% Surge in Demand: “We Are Needed More Than Ever”

in News

October 25, 2024 – The demand for private security in Ibiza has skyrocketed by 30%, reflecting the island’s growing need for robust security measures across various sectors.

Discover the 30% surge in demand for private security in Ibiza and its impact on the island’s safety and security sector.

Rising Need for Private Security in Ibiza

Ibiza’s public and private sectors are increasingly calling for the presence of security guards in their facilities. From hospitals and airports to residential complexes and luxury villas, the island has become a hotspot for heightened security demand. This surge underscores the essential role that private security in Ibiza plays in maintaining safety and order.

Key Event Highlighting Security Needs

Today, Ibiza hosts the Private Security Day, organised for the second time by the Board of the Association of the Private Security Sector of the Balearic Islands (ASSP). The event takes place in Jesús and will feature notable attendees such as Inés Ybarra, president of ASSP, and Manuel Hernández, Commissioner of the National Police of Ibiza. The gathering aims to recognise the indispensable contributions of private security personnel who regularly collaborate with state security forces.

Factors Driving the Increase in Security Demand

Inés Ybarra shared with Noudiari that the demand for private security in Ibiza has surged by 30% in recent years. This increase is attributed to the expansion of security services into new areas previously deemed unnecessary. Security guards are now a common sight not only in traditional locations like nightclubs and the airport but also in emerging hotspots such as beach clubs, gated communities, luxury hotels, and upscale restaurants.

Collaboration and Challenges in the Security Sector

Ybarra emphasised the critical collaboration between public and private security sectors. “We support each other significantly,” she noted, highlighting the association’s efforts to combat intrusism in Ibiza’s security sector. Intrusism refers to unqualified individuals offering security services without proper training or backing from reputable companies, a problem exacerbated by high demand.

Beyond intrusism, the primary challenge facing Ibiza’s security firms is a shortage of trained personnel. “The lack of staff severely impacts us,” Ybarra explained. Seasonal workers from the mainland are no longer viable due to rising rental costs, making it financially burdensome for companies to maintain their workforce. This staffing crisis underscores the urgent need for sustainable solutions to support private security in Ibiza.

Achievements and Future Outlook

During her speech, Ybarra will highlight over 2,000 alarm-related actions, including more than 500 genuine emergencies, and collaborations in over 30 inspections addressing intrusism. Additionally, ASSP has worked alongside the National Police in over 1,500 cases involving property crimes, resulting in the detention of approximately 260 individuals.

The event will conclude with the presentation of awards to outstanding private security personnel and a networking catering session for attendees.
