Quick Response to Erosion Damage

Authorities closed the section of the walkway near Hostal Talamanca. The base of the establishment’s terrace gave way due to sea erosion. Holes appeared in the sand, raising safety concerns.

Technicians from the Ibiza Town Hall assessed the area. They monitored the sea’s erosion progress and its impact on the walkway’s pavement. They concluded that with reinforcement, the area could be safely reopened.

Reinforcement Works Completed

On Monday morning, workers improved the walkway’s stability by installing wooden boards at its base. They couldn’t use cement due to environmental considerations, so they preferred wood.

Councillor of Beaches, Rubén Sousa, stated, “We wanted to act quickly, so the Town Hall took charge of the repairs.” Although the walkway falls under the Central Government’s Coastal Demarcation, the local authority stepped in. They wanted to expedite the reopening of Talamanca wooden walkway.

Future Plans for Sinkholes

Addressing the sinkholes will take a bit longer. The Town Hall is awaiting a coordinated plan with the Coastal Demarcation. “When multiple administrations are involved, bureaucracy slows things down,” Sousa explained. The Town Hall is willing to handle the repairs if granted permission.

Simply filling the holes with sand isn’t a viable solution. Waves undermined the existing wall, causing erosion, and the problem could recur. Water filtered in, removing sand until the ground gave way.

Emphasis on Safety and Image

Sousa stressed the importance of resolving the sinkholes promptly. “It’s not just about safety but also about the image it presents to our visitors and residents,” he said. The reopening of Talamanca wooden walkway is a positive step, but more work remains.

The reopening of Talamanca wooden walkway brings relief to the community. With reinforcement works completed, locals and tourists can once again enjoy the scenic promenade. The Town Hall’s swift action underscores their commitment to maintaining Ibiza’s cherished landmarks.
