The €6,000 Penalty for Illegal Taxis in Ibiza

Ibiza Gets Tough on Illegal Taxis in Ibiza with €6,001 Fines and Vehicle Seizures

Offering transport without a licence in Ibiza just became a very expensive mistake. As the island faces another record-breaking tourist season, the authorities are targeting illegal taxis in Ibiza with renewed intensity.

According to the Consell d’Eivissa, anyone caught advertising unlicensed transport services—whether on social media or elsewhere—could face a €6,000 fine. In addition, the offender’s vehicle will be seized immediately.

€6,000 Fines and No Second Chances

Roberto Algaba, Ibiza’s Director of Transport, made the government’s stance crystal clear: “If you advertise yourself as an illegal taxi in Ibiza, don’t worry—sooner or later, you’ll pay €6,000 and lose your car.”

This comes as part of a broader campaign against transport piracy, particularly relevant during the busy summer months when demand for rides skyrockets. Officials describe the penalty as “crème de la crème” from the offender’s point of view—a sarcastic warning to those trying to cut corners.

Why the Crackdown Now?

With tens of thousands arriving each week, legitimate taxi services often can’t meet demand. This creates a grey market for illegal taxis in Ibiza, with some drivers using platforms like WhatsApp or Instagram to find clients. But the risk is real—and growing.

Local authorities have stepped up patrols and are actively monitoring digital channels for signs of transport offers without permits. They encourage both residents and visitors to use only licensed taxi providers for their safety and to avoid supporting unfair competition.

Illegal taxis in Ibiza don’t just disrupt the system—they endanger passengers and undermine those who follow the rules.
