Ambulants in Cala Tarida: A Beach Transformed

in Beaches, News

Cala Tarida, once a serene beach paradise, now buzzes with the activity of countless ambulants. The phenomenon of street vendors in Cala Tarida has transformed the beach into a lively bazaar, stirring mixed reactions from tourists and local businesses alike.

A Bazaar by the Sea

From as early as 9:00 am, ambulants flock to Cala Tarida’s shores. They offer everything from clothing, sunglasses, and beachwear to drinks and fresh fruit. Street vendors in Cala Tarida have become so prevalent that it’s hard to find a quiet spot without the call of a vendor.

Local Businesses Speak Out

Sergio, who runs a beachside restaurant, expresses his frustration. “It’s not just about competition; it’s about the image we present to tourists,” he says. He notes that the number of ambulants has increased noticeably, impacting the overall experience of visitors.

Montse, owner of a souvenir shop, shares similar sentiments. “It’s beyond terrible,” she remarks. She plans to voice her concerns to the local council after the season ends, citing the lack of police action against unregulated ambulants in Cala Tarida.

A Different Perspective

Not everyone sees the surge of ambulants in Cala Tarida negatively. Jairo, from another beach establishment, mentions that while vendors are everywhere, they’ve never caused any trouble. “They’ve always been polite, and there’s nothing negative to say,” he adds.

The Bigger Picture

Alfonso Rojo, president of Pimeef, highlights the broader issues. He labels ambulants in Cala Tarida as an illegal activity that creates unfair competition and violates health regulations. Rojo believes that authorities need to allocate more resources to address the problem effectively.

Conclusion

The rise of ambulants in Cala Tarida reflects a complex issue that balances tourism, local business interests, and the livelihoods of vendors. As the beach continues to evolve, finding a harmonious solution remains a challenge for the community.
