Benirràs Tourism Control Eases Overcrowding and Restores Ibiza’s Natural Charm

in Beaches, News

Benirràs Tourism Control – Benirràs Beach, once synonymous with the famed Sunday Drum Festival, has undergone a significant transformation. This shift comes as a result of stricter tourism controls implemented by the local government. Ibiza’s iconic beach, known for its picturesque sunsets and vibrant celebrations, is now seeing fewer crowds and more tranquility.

From Hippie Drums to Police Patrols

For decades, Benirràs Beach attracted thousands of tourists who gathered every Sunday to experience the famous Fiesta de los Tambores. At its peak, this hippie-inspired celebration brought more than 3,000 visitors to the shores, resulting in overcrowding, pollution, and traffic chaos. Litter, such as empty bottles and cigarette butts, became a common sight, frustrating both locals and environmental advocates.

However, things started to change when the local government of Sant Joan, concerned about the negative impacts on the environment and public safety, introduced Benirràs tourism control measures. Access to the beach is now regulated, particularly during peak hours on Sundays. The presence of police patrols has also been intensified to ensure that these regulations are upheld.

A Calmer Beach Experience

The efforts to control access have brought positive changes. Tourists arriving for the iconic sunset now find more space and fewer disruptions. The large crowds, which once filled the small beach to its limits, have drastically decreased. “We no longer see the massive groups fighting for a sunset photo,” a local police officer mentioned.

Boats that previously filled the horizon are now fewer, allowing visitors to enjoy unobstructed views of the sunset. The controls extend to traffic as well, with parking no longer an issue since fewer cars are coming to the beach.

Looking Forward

Although the Drum Festival no longer takes place on Sundays, some visitors believe the festivities have moved to other days. While the authorities have not confirmed this, they remain vigilant, ready to expand Benirràs tourism control if necessary.
