Italian Tourist Assault in Formentera: The Incident

Late Monday evening, the Italian tourist, his wife, and two children hired a taxi after dining at a local restaurant. They requested to all sit in the rear of the vehicle, which Omar Bouhia, the taxi driver, firmly denied due to traffic regulations. Consequently, the father moved to the front seat.

Upon arrival at their destination, the tourist, with alleged martial arts expertise, initiated an unprovoked attack on the driver, resulting in severe injuries. Bouhia, a 32-year-old resident of Formentera, sustained facial trauma and had to be airlifted to Can Misses Hospital for immediate treatment.

Aftermath and Legal Action

Both the taxi license owner and Bouhia lodged a complaint with the Civil Guard. After reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel where the incident took place, officers promptly arrested the tourist, who offered no resistance.

The Formentera Taxi Drivers Association has expressed full support for Bouhia and strongly condemned the incident.

Community Response

The Gent per Formentera (GxF) party, in which Bouhia is an active member, issued a strong condemnation of the attack. They asserted that this incident epitomized the kind of disrespectful tourism that the island rejects. The party added, “We want all those people who, like Omar, live and work in Formentera to be able to do so freely and calmly without suffering for their integrity, which is why we will continue to defend an island model where luxury is the tranquility of our surroundings and the proximity of our deal”.

Italian Tourist Assault in Formentera: Conclusion

This incident highlights the need for more respect and safety in tourism. Investigations are ongoing while the community supports Bouhia. Everyone strives for a peaceful, respectful visitor experience.
