Sant Antoni Begins Demolition of Can Tunís for New Cultural Space

in News, Sant Antoni de Portmany

The Sant Antoni Town Council has commenced the demolition of the old Can Tunís residence, marking the start of a new cultural era for the town. Located at 11 Santa Agnès Street, at the corner with 12 Vara de Rey Street, the site is set to be transformed into the Sant Antoni Cultural Space.

Demolition of Can Tunís Underway

The demolition work began today on the deteriorated building, which had stood for over 80 years. The property consisted of two dilapidated constructions merged into a single dwelling. In recent years, it served as auxiliary storage for a nearby tourist establishment. The demolition has a budget of €39,586.90.

A Step Towards a New Cultural Hub

The acquisition of the property is part of the “Regeneration of the Old Town through the Creation of a Cultural Space” project. This initiative received European funding to cover the total purchase cost of €1,073,902.33. The aim is to open up and renaturalise the area by creating an open-air cultural space, known as the Sant Antoni Cultural Space.
